Isaac Montney Inspiration Investigation Post

I specifically for my film will be working on a sci-fi type film. The idea for the film is that all the ideas that everyone has throughout their days all combine and culminate into this one world of imagination and thoughts. The world will contain a variety of ideas that some make sense, some do not. In this world nothing quite makes sense but that is the beauty of it. It is simply everyone's mind made into a universe. I am taking inspiration from the game development company MM (Media Molecule). This Company created a game franchise called “Little Big Planet” from 2008-2014. This game stood out to me as unique and unlike anything I had truly seen before. The game took many many different genres, moods, and styles and combined them into one game. I remember feeling an astronomical amount of different emotions as I played this game as a child. This game is something I remember to this day, not only because it was a fun game but because of what it made me feel. I felt frightened at times, I felt unexplainably joyful at times, I felt sad at times. The whole storyline of the game was to create your own world with your ideas. This created a whole truck load of different themes all being unpacked at different times throughout the life of the game. It created an overall mindset of confusion yet wonder that I fell in love with. This is the effect I want to create when I create my Sci-Fi film. It will be very unrealistic yet realistic at the same time. I want to connect everyone together with the same film and make everyone feel as though they have a spot in it. I will take inspiration from the game through its use of brightened colors, images, amazing soundtrack, and plot along with the twists we see in it.

Genre 2020 - Isaac Montney

This year I will be exploring sci fi and fantasy. The reason for this is because I really want to challenge myself and do something new and use my imagination and a variety of film techniques to achieve the sci fi type look and feel. Not only do I want to go all in with these theme because I want to challenge myself but also because I've always had the idea that fantasy films are so much different and unique compared to the other genres and subgenres. In the fantasy realm everything is possible and anything can be done. There is no sense of realism or anything logical. This makes a large gap of room for available creativity and opportunity to do very amazing and unique things. I will use mainly costuming and setting along with the right plot/background to make successful fantasy films. I'm interesting in making the films more psychological based and about the mind rather than doing thing such as aliens or monsters in the sci fi genre.

Final

What was your favorite part of the class this year? My favorite part of the class was being able to choose our own genre for the film we made last in the year, I look forward to doing projects much like this in the future for maximum creativity and enjoyment.
What have you learned the most about?  Definitely genre, is what I have learned about most. Throughout the year the movies we have discussed and talked about in class usually are of different genres from each other, and after analyzing them I have noticed the differences they have from each other much more and their importance.
What didn't you like so much? I didn't like the beginning of the year projects not being able to choose what we did for our films. I much rather prefer choice in films because I believe it gives a much larger range of possibilities and creativity. Also since each of us are doing what we enjoy in the process of film creation, it guarantees maximum effort.

Why does Méliès say this? Melies does not want Hugo to end up having the same issues he had as a kid by believing that things in movies happen in real life. He wants Hugo to know the truth, which is that fairy tails don't happen in real life, but only in stories. He is worried that Hugo will never know this, so he just tells him early on.

Why does he want to forget about the films he made?

He wanted to forget about the creativity and magical Wonderland type of Worlds he always imagined. He stopped believing in his dreams and creative side.  the films he made almost always consisted of this creativity, which really made Georges Méliès want to forget about these films, until Hugo came along.

Do you think the film Hugo has a happy ending? Why or why not?

Yes, i think Hugo ended very happy. It is ironic because it had a happy ending itself, while suggesting earlier that happy endings don't exist. In the end Hugo got a much better and more Humane life rather than living in a train station, he finally was offered the opportunity to pursue his dreams, and that's exactly what he did. Georges Méliès also was reconnected with his past film life due to Hugo's creative mind and presence.

Georges Méliès: “If you’ve ever wondered where your dreams come from, you look around...this is where they’re made.”

Georges Méliès: “My friends, I address you all tonight as you truly are; wizards, mermaids, travellers, adventurers, magicians... Come and dream with me.” What do these quotes teach us about the connection between the cinema and dreams?

In the first quote we are told that the dreams we dream up every single day and night are created and formed by the world around us. What is being said is that things in the world that are reality can be taken in many different varieties of ways, creating a sort of new world and dreams for the thinker. The quote shows that the world is not only a place of realism where everyone is forced to think the same, but instead think freely, dream feely, and live freely.

In the second quote Méliès is trying to get the point across that people don't have to simply be what society wants them to be. People can be whatever they want. The quote encourages the idea of dreaming and being your own unique person rather than following the crowd. Méliès also shows through the before stated quote that one will be not only more successful in life if they dream, but also much more happy.

social network pt 2

The Social Network' Is A Great Movie, But Don't Overload The ...

1. There is rarely a scene where Mark Zuckerberg is alone. How does this character view others and how do they view him? How is this conveyed? In what situations do we find him alone and what is he doing when he is by himself?

He views other's like a helping hand to reach his end goal. He doesn't view anyone as a friend really he just uses them to help himself. Anytime he talks to Eduardo he starts off with "I need this.." and they only ever talk about business together. There is not a conversation they had that was related to their personal lives. The only scene I can remember Mark by himself is when he thinks of his ex-girlfriend and decides to reach out to her which is a character development moment for him.

3. Is there anything stereotypical about the representation of adults?
The adults in the film remind me of grandparents that you have to explain technology to. They don't understand this new idea and highly doubt that something will come from it. They are very close-minded to this because they haven't seen anything like it.
